Eastleigh MP Mims Davies has vowed to fight for better transport infrastructure and health services in the constituency during her maiden speech to Parliament.
Mims, who made the address yesterday on her 40th birthday, said she would also work hard to ensure less traffic pollution.
“Eastleigh is very close to the M3 and the M27, which puts pressure on our community, with pollution and other pressures,” she told MPs.
“I will use my time in this House to fight for the infrastructure that is needed: the Chickenhall link road; the Botley bypass, which we have waited decades for, and the upgrades to Hamble Lane and the Windover roundabout.
“We need smart motorways in Hampshire, noise reduction and junction improvements on the M27.”
Mims also said she would like to see Moorgreen Hospital in West End enhanced and retained so that local people do not have to go to Southampton or Winchester for treatment.
“There are no acute services in Eastleigh; there is no walk-in centre or community hospital,” she said.
On a lighter note, Mims paid tribute to O’Briens coffee shop in Eastleigh which she said, “provides the best coffee in a town centre that anyone could find”.
She also said that Eastleigh College and Barton Peveril Sixth Form College were both a tremendous success.
In closing, the new MP for Eastleigh heartily praised the work of one Eastleigh Borough Councillor and spoke of her pride at being voted in to represent the whole constituency.
“I am very proud to represent Eastleigh and I am also very proud to stand alongside Cllr Godfrey Olson, who is one of my local councillors and has celebrated 60 years as a councillor.”
Mrs Davies vowed to work extremely hard for the community and to try to echo the service Cllr Olson has given to the area.
