Eastleigh MP Mims Davies is urging local people to make sure they are registered to vote in next month’s EU referendum.
Teenagers who have turned 18 in the time since the local elections earlier this month need to check with their local council whether they are on the electoral roll so can cast their vote for the first time.
“Several people have also mentioned to me that they’re not sure whether they’re on the electoral register and, because this is a referendum and not an election, they will be able to vote,” Mims explained.
“The same rules apply for the referendum as for any election, local or general. If you want to vote then you must register – it’s as simple as that. So if anyone feels they might not be registered there’s still time to do so and have a say in the referendum on 23rd June.”
People who are not yet registered to vote may do so online at https://www.gov.uk/register-to-vote
