Eastleigh MP Mims Davies has welcomed Zoe Smith, the Head of Advocacy from the Open Doors charity, to Westminster for a thought-provoking meeting – following passionate emails from constituents encouraging her to get in touch with the organisation.
Mims said,
‘I received a huge stack of emails from concerned Eastleigh residents regarding the worrying persecution of Christians overseas, and I was delighted to arrange a private meeting with this organisation so I could learn more about the impact of international conflicts on my constituents’ behalf.
‘We have such a strong Christian community in the constituency, and I have always been made welcome at our local churches when conducting my drop-in surgeries, and when attending services.
‘It was shocking to hear how many are suffering overseas, when we are very lucky to enjoy religious freedom here in our local area. Everyone should feel safe to hold and practice their personal beliefs, whatever they may be.
‘I will now be writing to the Secretary of State for International Development Penny Mordaunt MP, representing my constituents’ by flagging this particular situation to the Government.
‘I am grateful that Zoe – incidentally a graduate from Southampton University – took the time to come to Parliament to discuss Eastleigh residents’ concerns with me.’
Mims is delighted to represent constituents by meeting with a mix of charitable organisations and campaign groups to learn more about issues that matter to the Eastleigh community. She will continue to do so as an integral component of her work as Eastleigh’s MP.
