Eastleigh MP Mims Davies has thrown her support behind Crohn’s and Colitis Awareness Week, which ends tomorrow, (4th December) because her mother suffered from the disease.
There are at least 300,000 people in the UK living with Crohn’s or Colitis, the two main forms of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD).
These chronic conditions can cause ulceration and inflammation in the colon (Ulcerative Colitis) or any part of the digestive system (Crohn’s Disease).
"The awareness week is just to make sure that the population and the medical profession know more about this debilitating condition,” said Mims.
“I saw the problems it caused first hand with my mother, so I understand what a problem it can be with people suffering from exhaustion and some terrible symptoms.”
“There really does need to be better healthcare provisions for all of those living with IBD across the UK.”
Mims said she was pleased to highlight that the charity, Crohn’s and Colitis UK, recently launched a patient guide to the top 10 essentials of a good Inflammatory Bowel Disease called My Crohn’s and Colitis Care which will help people get the support they need.
