Following her meeting with volunteers from Citizens Advice in Eastleigh, local MP Mims Davies has invited local volunteers in to Parliament for a tour.
Eastleigh MP, Mims Davies said:
'Citizens Advice have long been at the very centre of our communities, and I know that the organisation plays an active role in supporting people across my Eastleigh constituency. I wanted to thank them for their hard work and give them a special tour.
'It was therefore a real pleasure to welcome this friendly group of volunteers in to Parliament on Thursday afternoon, who each carry out such important work providing support to my constituents when they need it most.
'I am delighted that they enjoyed it, and look forward to continuing to support the excellent work that Alison, the Citizens Advice Team in Eastleigh, and all of their volunteers carry out on a daily basis.'
Alison Sanson, CEO of Citizens Advice Eastleigh said:
‘A tour of the Houses of Parliament is a great opportunity Mims offered to our group of committed volunteers. They all work very hard, giving their time for free to help local residents; I am so pleased they enjoyed it!’
Following the extensive tour, one of the thrilled volunteers said:
‘The tour was brilliant; really informative and enjoyable. The tour included Westminster Hall, St Stephen’s Chapel, Central Lobby and both the Commons and Lords Chamber as well as a number of decadent State rooms. We also got to watch and listen to a debate in the Commons! All the volunteers learnt something new about Parliament and the work of our MPs.
'We were also really pleased that Mims was so supportive of our organisation and the work we do to help people who live in Eastleigh Borough. Now we have visited the Houses of Parliament, we will be inviting Mims to come and visit our place of work later in the summer!'
Meanwhile, David Blenkarn, Citizens Advice Eastleigh Treasurer said:
'It was a very interesting tour and Mims gave us plenty of time to ask questions about the way Parliament operates. It also gave a good insight into the work that MPs do behind the scenes in Parliamentary committees reviewing the detail of bills, which is a major time commitment.'
