The Member of Parliament for Eastleigh, Mims Davies, has today confirmed that she is working with Hampshire County Council and Highways England to secure a multi-million pound investment from the Government to improve Hamble Lane.
If successful, the extra cash would build upon improvements already planned for Junction 8 of the M27 and at the Windhover Roundabout, and significantly reduce queues and the length of journeys south of the M27, as well as around Hedge End.
Commenting, Eastleigh MP Mims Davies said:
“Over the past decade Eastleigh Borough Council has approved a deluge of piecemeal developments right across our area, but has completely failed to bring forward infrastructure to support them.
“This approach, taking the extra council tax to plug their growing debt levels, without providing the roads that we need to keep us all moving and to improve - not worsen - local air quality, is a growing concern for many of my constituents.
“As the local MP I am delighted to have secured £10 million towards the delivery of the Botley Bypass, and £2.5 million towards improvements to Junction 7 of the M27, but there remains more to do.
“Based in Hamble myself, I have seen first-hand how Hamble Lane becomes more clogged up each year as more developments are approved by the Borough Council. This opportunity has arisen as a result of my discussions with Ministers, and I will be working hard with Hampshire County Council and Highway England to secure this significant funding towards improvements to Hamble Lane.
“I will always use my office to bring partners together, to unlock local challenges, to improve quality of life for residents and to support local businesses.”
