The Member of Parliament for Eastleigh, Mims Davies, has met with Highways England representative, John Henderson, ahead of a decision being taken to address noise concerns relating to the concrete section of the M27.
The meeting follows a number of information events during the summer over the introduction of Smart Motorway to the M27, with many local residents feeding in how important it is to them that the concrete section of the M27 is addressed as part of the Smart Motorway Scheme.
Commenting, Eastleigh MP Mims Davies said:
"It’s always a real pleasure to meet with John who has such a good understanding of our local area and the needs of my constituents.
“Over the summer I joined with local Hedge End and West End residents at the Highways England information events to discuss the introduction of Smart Motorway to our section of the M27, and what this should mean for local residents, including reducing noise pollution.
“When I met with John, I was pleased to hear that those at the very top of Highways England and the Department for Transport have received that message loud and clear, and I look forward to hearing the final decision very shortly.”
Commenting, John Henderson said:
“We have been working hard to find a solution for some time now. We now have a couple of options which need evaluating to decide on the best course of action. As soon as we have a final solution and answer we will publish this as quickly as possible. We’d like to thank the local residents for their patience while we go through this process ”
Commenting further, Mims Davies said:
“I was also pleased to catch-up with John on behalf of my constituents over other improvements to our areas road network, including at Junction 8 of the M27 and on Hamble Lane. Further to these conversations, I look forward to meeting with the Roads Minister soon.”
As Eastleigh’s MP, Mims Davies has secured £10 million that will finally see the delivery of the Botley Bypass and £2.5 million towards replacing the traffic signals at Junction 7 of the M27, meaning that people won’t be waiting needlessly for lights to change.
