The Member of Parliament for Eastleigh, Mims Davies, has welcomed the new ‘16-17 Saver’ railcard announced by the Department for Transport today.
From 2nd September 2019, the ‘16-17 Saver’ railcard will guarantee 16 – 17-year olds across England and Wales 50% off most rail fares every day of the year with no time restrictions and no minimum fare. The new railcards are set to boost education opportunities and help communities and businesses by making travel cheaper for young people.
Commenting, Eastleigh MP Mims Davies said:
“Many of my younger constituents rely on rail travel to get to and from school, college or work and access to affordable travel is a huge factor in their choices about what jobs they apply for or where they go to school.
That’s why I am delighted to welcome the launch of the 16-17 Saver which will save young people and their families hundreds in travel costs every year.”
“We are lucky to have brilliant local sixth forms and colleges across Eastleigh, offering a superb education and active apprenticeship schemes for those who want to get a head start in work. It is vital that we ensure all of our young people are able to seize every opportunity for training and education and the 16-17 Saver is a key step towards achieving this.”
