Eastleigh MP Mims Davies is urging parents to think about their children’s safety during this Saturday’s Halloween festivities.
Thousands of children across the constituency are due to take part in the event this weekend - many trick or treating and dressed up in ghoulish costumes.
“I have two young daughters who love Halloween, so it’s great to get out with them trick or treating and generally having fun,” said Mims.
“But there are dangers, especially with lighted pumpkins or candles and nylon costumes – an issue that has led to some horrifying accidents in the last few years. Fire resistant costumes are out there, and I do urge parents to buy them instead.
“One thing I thought was a great idea when my children were young was making sure they each carried an ID tag, just in case they got lost during all the running around.
“On these dark nights and with dark costumes – something reflective has worked wonders helping to find youngsters in the gloom too.”
