On Thursday Eastleigh MP Mims Davies hosted her first Seniors Fair at the Fleming Park Bowling Club in Eastleigh, providing an opportunity for local people of all ages to discuss and explore a whole range of topics from saving for retirement to knowing what services are available for us all as we mature and those that care for us, as well as the many activities and events taking place in the local area and opportunities to get involved and volunteer.
Over thirty different organisations were present on the day, including Hampshire Constabulary, One Community, the British Lung Foundation and Eastleigh Rugby Club.
Commenting afterwards, Eastleigh MP Mims Davies said:
“I have one hundred and one thank you’s to say following the sterling success of Thursday’s Seniors’ Fair! Having cared for my own relatives, and recently taken on the role of Minister for Loneliness, I am incredibly passionate about supporting my constituents as we all mature, and it was great to see so many local people popping in to make the most of this event and everything that it offered.
“My sincere thanks to all of the organisations that came along, with over thirty attending there are too many to mention, but it was really lovely to pop and speak to each of them about the really important work that they carry out in our community and thank them in person for all they do.
“I would also like to thank everyone that made the effort to come along and make the most of this opportunity to speak to so many different organisations all under one roof. I am really grateful for the positive response, and will be working to build on the event again next year!”
“In the meantime, I’m looking forward to another packed constituency diary next week, including a visit to Norwood Primary School and joining the Street Pastors in Fair Oak, with a visit to Fair Oak Junior School the following week when I’ll also be supporting Botley residents Graham and Anne Hunter at the CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young) Bake Sale!”
Also commenting, Hedge End resident, Cheryl Lewington, who represented the Hedge End Breathe Easy Group said:
“I would like to thank Mims and her team so much for putting this event on, the atmosphere was wonderful with lots of fun and laughter.
“We hope that our presence was helpful to those that struggle or have family that struggle with a lung condition. Our group has certainly benefited with new contacts who we look forward to working with in the New Year.
“My thanks once again to Mims and her team for including us in such a lovely event.”
The Eastleigh MPs Seniors’ Fair was free to attend and required no pre-registration
