As the Employment Ministers, it's filled me with great pride to see the latest figures this morning show that the number of people in employment rose by 207,000 last month and is now above pre-pandemic levels, with job vacancies and wages also rising.
Our Plan for Jobs is working, and the unemployment rate has fallen by 0.4%, while over 1.1 million job vacancies are now available, Our priority is getting people back into work and helping businesses to thrive, and I am committed to supporting the Government's efforts to help people into exciting new job opportunities which are currently available.
After the economic hardships of the last 18 months, I believe this is another really encouraging signal that we are heading in the right direction. However, I know there is still far more to be done, and I will continue to highlight the concerns constituents have about the impact this pandemic is continuing to have on the country, as well as the recent rise in energy prices.
