At an event supported by Sky’s Ocean Rescue campaign, the Member of Parliament for Eastleigh, Mims Davies, has said that her constituents have shown her that the war on plastics is a battle that can be won.
Commenting Mims said:
“I was delighted to attend this vitally important event earlier today, which focussed on the importance of ridding plastics from our waters.”
“Having worked closely alongside the passionate people at Surfers Against Sewerage, I was unsurprised to learn that they had been supporting Sky’s Ocean Rescue campaign by touring the country with a whale made from recyclable plastic, which made its next stop outside Parliament today.”
Launched on 24th January 2017, Sky Ocean Rescue aims to shine a spotlight on the issues affecting ocean health, find innovative solutions to the problem of ocean plastics, and inspire people to make small everyday changes that collectively make a huge difference.
Every minute, the equivalent of a rubbish truck load of plastic goes in to the oceans, it never decomposes and will remain there forever. If nothing changes, by 2050 all the plastic in the ocean could weigh more than all the fish.
Commenting further Mims said:
“I am delighted, as the Government Whip paired with the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, to be working alongside Michael Gove and his Ministers to deliver on the Prime Ministers commitment to tackling plastic waste as outlined within the Governments 25 Year Plan for the Environment.”
“This task is, however, onerous upon each and every one of us, and having had constituents come up to me to talk about their enthusiasm for turning the corner on how we reduce plastic waste, I am in no doubt that together, we will rid plastics from our waters.”
