I wanted to let constituents know the consultation period for the proposed weight limit restriction on Lewes Road B2111 is now open and to highlight how important responding to it is.
The consultation period will be from 25th May to 30th June 2021
The proposal's aim is to reduce the number of HGVs travelling through Lindfield, reducing the levels of both sound and air pollution, as well as reducing congestion at the junction of Lewes Road and High Street, helping to significantly reduce the environmental impact of the area and adhering to the aims of the West Sussex Transport Strategy.
I wholeheartedly support the crucial new proposals. Lindfield is a beautiful and historic rural village, which has unfortunately become too popular a route for HGVs passing through. The size, frequency and impact of them on Lindfield’s peaceful surroundings are very much to the detriment of residents, local businesses and other road users.
I have met and liaised with the new WSCC Councillor for Lindfield and High Weald, Cllr Garry Wall, and key local stakeholders on this matter. I will continue to support a resolution to this situation.
Commenting, Councillor Wall has said:
“I am aware of the serious concerns raised by residents and the campaign, led by the Parish Council and residents, to improve the Lewes Rd junction at Lindfield High Street has my full support.”
The Leader of MSDC and Lindfield District Council, Jonathan Ash-Edwards, commented:
“Lindfield Parish Council has done an excellent job pushing this proposed TRO forward to improve safety at this narrow part of the village which isn’t suitable for HGVs. The proposed TRO has my full support and I would encourage residents to contribute to the consultation”.
I want to encourage everyone can have their say to do so. If there is widespread support for the proposals, Lindfield Parish Council will apply to West Sussex County Council to introduce the relevant traffic regulation order through the statutory process. Further information will be provided in due course.
