Mims Davies MP has attended a St. Patrick ’s Day reception at the Irish Embassy to explore how the UK’s departure from the European Union will have affect the important bi-lateral relationship between the nations.
Mims said,
‘I have made clear to constituents writing in on this issue that I share the Government’s view on this matter - maintaining our strong and historic ties with Ireland should be a priority in any upcoming negotiations.
‘The UK and Irish economies are deeply integrated and I want the people of Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland to be able to move freely across the border.’
At the event, the Irish Ambassador Daniel Mulhall spoke on the importance of ensuring that British- Irish relations remain close, and the great contributions that citizens of Ireland make in the UK, and vice-versa.
Mims later added,
‘Attending this event, and its celebration of Anglo-Irish relations, becomes even more poignant after the events on Wednesday.’
Mims will continue to participate in discussions in Westminster regarding the UK-Ireland details of Brexit, with particular focus on maintaining an open border and to avoid a return to the hard border of the past.
