The Member of Parliament for Eastleigh, Mims Davies, has shown her support for the Cystic Fibrosis Trusts’ campaign for access to the drug Orkambi.
The medicine, licenced for use in the UK nearly 2 years ago is effective for up to 40% of those that suffer with Cystic Fibrosis, and unlike other medication, looks to address the underlying cause of the condition.
Commenting, Mims said:
“I was pleased to be able to support the Cystic Fibrosis Trust and my constituents who are currently living with this condition. They were keen for me to understand this complex condition, and I was delighted to take up the opportunity.”
“There are 10,400 people suffering from the Cystic Fibrosis in the UK. Currently only half of those with the condition will live beyond their 31st birthday. Orkambi could significantly improve those statistics, changing the lives of those affected.”
“It is therefore vital that our communities can access this life changing treatment as soon as possible, and I will continue to campaign on this issue on behalf of my constituents, and all of those affected.”
The event was also an opportunity for MP’s and Peers to hear the personal experiences of those living with Cystic Fibrosis, and an update on future research and pipeline treatments.
