Mims Davies MP for Eastleigh joined Hampshire members of the W.I. on Sunday to celebrate the organisation’s centenary at Leigh Road recreational ground.
Over sixty-three stalls, run by the W.I members, local outlets and charities provided entertainment to hundreds of local people.
Mims said,
‘WIFest was such a joyful occasion in beautiful sunshine – where W.I. members, their friends and their families united for cake but also for companionship in the heart of the constituency.
‘W.I. Members from Hedge End, Bursledon and Eastleigh all hosted cake, craft and competition stalls throughout the day, and we also heard some brilliant performances from the 14th Eastleigh Scout & Guide Band, our local Rock Choir and The Romsey Old Cadets.
‘I recently met the Netley Abbey W.I. for a private tour of the Houses of Parliament, and I’m very proud to have been invited to speak to them about my role as Eastleigh’s MP in September.
‘These women have a huge range of talents, and to come together to share in these interests, to learn new things, and to be good company to one-another is such a positive community to be a part of. It is so much more than Jam and Jerusalem!’
‘What a privilege to be invited to celebrate at the weekend, and after the 3 years of planning, it’s safe to say the event was a success with a cracking turnout.
