Mims Davies MP has raised concerns about Eastleigh Borough Council's new budget.
She said:
"The Council’s new Budget means they must find £4.7 million in savings over the next five years yet they will not tell us where the first year’s savings of almost a million pounds will be found from which I find surprising. Council staff and residents alike will be asking whether it is right that a Council can hide their plans from the public in this way. The lack of transparency on top of clear plans for future increases in council tax means to my mind they are simply delaying doing this until after the May elections."
"The proposed Budget is reckless and shows a huge funding gap without any plan to meet that. This Budget is so dire that even leading Liberal Democrat Councillors are questioning the amount of borrowing. I urge the Council to use all the opportunities available to them by central government to make sure services are retained. I also urge the council to clearly publish their future plans so that residents and businesses in Eastleigh can know what to expect from their council."
