Mims Davies MP backs Royal British Legion’s call to strengthen Armed Forces Covenant
Mims Davies MP has pledged her support for the Armed Forces Covenant following a recent Parliamentary event hosted by the Royal British Legion (RBL), Poppyscotland, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) and Steve Yemm MP.
This event called for the Covenant’s expansion to better support Service personnel, veterans and their families.
Joined by the Royal British Legion and MoD representatives, as well as speakers from the Armed Forces community, this was an opportunity for MPs to hear more about the Covenant and how it needs to change.
Since 2011, the Armed Forces Covenant has been a promise that members of the Armed Forces, veterans and their families should not face any disadvantage because of their Service. In 2021 the Government introduced a legal duty for organisations responsible for providing local healthcare, education, and housing services to give ‘due regard’ for the Armed Forces Covenant.
Mims Davies MP said:
I was pleased to join the recent Parliamentary event with the RBL calling to strengthen Armed Forces Covenant.
I greatly valued the opportunity to attend this event and hear from veterans and Service charities about the good the Armed Forces Covenant is doing and new ways I can use it to support the Armed Forces community in East Grinstead, Uckfield, and the villages, but also how we can strengthen the Covenant.
We must keep the Covenant promise we have made to Service personnel, veterans and their families.
As an MP, I will work to represent the stories of my constituents from the Armed Forces community and to support improving the Covenant in Parliament.
