Mims Davies MP on BBC Radio 5 Live for full national inquiry into the rape gangs grooming scandal

An attempt by the Conservatives to have the government set up a national inquiry into grooming gangs was voted down by 364 votes to 111 votes, a margin of 253.

Mims voted for the full national inquiry.

Meanwhile, those who failed to vote at all included:

  • Prime Minister, Keir Starmer
  • Deputy Prime Minister, Angela Rayner
  • Chancellor of the Exchequer, Rachel Reeves
  • Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, Wes Streeting

All of them after saying how vital this vote was.

The amendment to the Children's Wellbeing and Schools Bill called on Sir Keir Starmer's Labour Government to establish a 'national statutory inquiry into historical child sexual exploitation, focused on grooming gangs'.

Chris Philp MP, Shadow Home Secretary, hit out at the Prime Minister and accused Sir Keir of using 'his supermajority in Parliament to block a national inquiry into the rape gangs scandal'.

Mims was also pleased to speak on BBC Politics Live, which can be found here:

Mims Davies MP said:

Today's Conservative vote was an important moment for Parliament.

It was an important moment to send a signal that it wasn’t going to allow the horrific grooming gangs scandal to go on without a battle for justice and the disinfectant of a full inquiry.

Yet tellingly the Liberal Democrats did nothing, they enabled Labour to block this, leaving youngsters in our towns and villages still vulnerable.

Every time the Liberal Democrats have the opportunity to stop Labour - they simply prefer to sit on their hands.
