Mims Davies MP comments on Tesco cutting 400 jobs following Sainsburys cutting 3000 jobs
Tesco have announced they'll be cutting 400 jobs both in their head office and across its stores.
The major supermarket are also launching a consultation in the coming days on the closure of a Distribution Centre following the announcement of hard-working people loosing their jobs.
Mims held one of her Supermarket Surgeries in the local Tesco in Uckfield, alongside Cllr Michael Lunn, in the second half of 2024 speaking to residents and customers on their local concerns and how Mims can help them moving forward.
Mims Davies MP said:
Following the announcement Sainsburys will now have to cut 3,000 hard working people's jobs and impacting their families. We've now heard the news of Tesco having to cut 400 jobs impacting head office roles, bakery positions, management roles in Tesco Mobile phone shops and also looking at the potential closing of a distribution centre.
I know from correspondence I’ve already received, my constituents want this Labour government to open their eyes of the talking down they have actually done to our Labour market and realise what they're doing is massively harming not just our brilliant small businesses, local farmers, family businesses who keep food on our plates and drive the economy, but also now even huge companies such as Sainsburys and Tesco are going in the wrong direction.
The additional National Insurance contributions, put simply, their jobs tax on top of business rates, extended producer responsibility and the latest Deposit Return Schemes impact - to name a few - are only harming our hard working and crucial businesses who contribute so much to the economy and help pay for our public services.
I have huge sympathy and concern for residents worried about their jobs and they need to change course on their employment bill and stop talking about projects that mean nothing in Sussex especially as it was Labour who came in and cancelled the A27 upgrade in our county.
This following Labour's statement today in the Chamber on Growing the UK Economy... you can't make it up.
