Mims Davies MP joins Butterbox Farm discussing Budget and serious Challenges for Asset Rich but Cash Poor Family Farmers

Butterbox Farm have all grass fed Dexter beef, lamb and free range Saddleback pork available weekly from their beautiful farm in Scaynes Hill, West Sussex in Mims' constituency of East Grinstead, Uckfield, and the villages.

Mims has been meeting with multiple farmers throughout the year discussing the family farm tax being inflicted on them by the Labour Government.

The Butterbox Farm flock began with the arrival of farm manager Peter in 2008 who came with an unsurpassable knowledge and passion for all things woolly.

When Peter started on the farm there were just 12 Portland ewes and he quickly bought onto the farm 50 New Zealand Romney ewes at 2 years old, and 60 New Zealand Romney ewe-lambs along with 2 unrelated rams.

Their first lambing on Butterbox farm was out in the field with an old tin shelter making up 6 individual pens. Due to harsh weather conditions and predatory foxes they suffered terrible lamb losses.

Their commercial flock now stands at 300 ewes, producing approximately 500 lambs a year, and they have also grown their small flock of pure bred Portlands, mostly to help ensure the breed doesn't die out, and because quite simply they love how they look on the farm!

Thank you to Brigette and Hugh for speaking to me at Butterbox Farm in Scaynes Hill.

It is by no means an easy conversation to have when hard-working farmers are struggling with the new challenges imposed by the Labour Government.

These people who work 24/7 365 to keep food on our plates are our family, friends, neighbours - they are real human beings who are struggling - Labour need to stand up, open their ears, and listen to the serious, serious struggles farmers are experiencing and how Labour's policies are only making it even harder.

With Christmas on the way - please do shop local, support our farmers, and order your meat, veg and more from your local farmers.

I was thrilled to join so many residents for last week’s Small Business Saturday. I had a lovely Friday in Uckfield during their brilliant annual late night shopping event. Then on Saturday with residents backing our local traders and producers.
