Mims Davies MP writes to Education Ministers on West Sussex Schools Funding

Dear Minister
I am writing to formally raise serious and growing concerns about school funding in West Sussex on behalf of my constituents who are deeply worried for their children’s education and on behalf of the Headteachers who have contacted me to say they are at “financial breaking point”. I am writing to ensure you are fully aware of the strength of feeling here locally on this issue. From national insurance increases under your government to energy costs, my local team are stretched, worried and need support and answers....
I share these deep concerns. Who amongst us is not concerned?
I know there are many, many parents and educators who are acutely aware of the strain the Government’s approach is placing on schools up and down the country. But I am writing to Ministers in the Department for Education today about another issue, an issue that is NOT affecting all schools, all teaching staff, all pupils across the country.
This is the issue of fair funding. As the collective of Headteachers from across West Sussex wrote to me,
‘While we continue to strive for the best outcomes for our children, the disparity between our funding and the actual cost of operating in this region is no longer sustainable’
And indeed, the variation of funding provision between local authorities is stark.
