“I listened very carefully to the Prime Minister in the Chamber today on the very complex situation in Syria and Iraq.
“Many constituents have been in touch with me about this on both sides of the debate. These letters show that the people of Eastleigh constituency feel for the plight of the Syrian people and understand that Islamic State are a direct threat to our nation.
“The fact that there have been seven plots thwarted by the security services recently is a sobering thought especially as families across the country gather in shopping centres, places of worship and public spaces in the run up to Christmas. We must always make the security of the population a priority.
“Over the coming weeks I will listen further to what the Government and the security services have to say on what action in Syria will mean and, importantly, what form it will take, and I will rightly consider carefully all the evidence before I make my final decision.”
