Mims Davies MP raises awareness for World Parkinson's Day
World Parkinson's Day this year was on Saturday 11th April 2026.
In 1817, James Parkinson published his ‘Essay on the Shaking Palsy’, recognising Parkinson’s as a medical condition for the first time. We mark his birthday every 11th April with World Parkinson’s Day.
It’s a time to come together, raise awareness and build connections. World Parkinson’s Day is a day for you, the Parkinson’s community.
Mims would like to raise awareness of the symptoms to keep an eye out for - there are over 40 symptoms from tremors or stiffness, to problems with sleep and mental health. Not everyone can have the same symptoms and how Parkinson’s affects someone can change from day to day, and even from hour to hour so it is important to be aware of the symptoms.
Whatever your journey with Parkinson's, Parkinson's UK is here and ready to help and support you:

On World Parkinson’s Day, I took a moment to stand with everyone living with Parkinson’s, their families and friends, and the incredible carers who support them every day in East Grinstead, Uckfield, the villages, and beyond.
Across our community in EGU, too many residents are facing these challenges, often quietly and with immense courage.
As a Member of Parliament, I am committed to raising awareness, improving access to timely diagnosis and care, and supporting continued investment in research.
World Parkinson's Day is a reminder that together, we can do more — to listen, to learn, and to act.
