Mims Davies MP speaks for Ask Her to Stand Day from East Grinstead
She’s a Leader. She Just Might Not Know It Yet.
As the Shadow Minister for Women, Mims is pleased to be encouraging more brilliant, fantastic women into Parliament as Ask Her To Stand Day is all about fighting for equal representation because it means a better democracy for everyone.
For over 10 years, 50:50 Parliament have challenged the system and inspired and supported women, from all backgrounds, to stand for elected office and in the 2024 General Election, 101 women from the 50:50 community stood for elected office – with 25 winning their seats.
Women make up over 51% of the UK population but remain under-represented in Parliament and on local councils. Mims and her team want to ensure women have ‘equal seats for an equal say’ in UK politics, because they know a more representative democracy leads to better decision-making, and ultimately a better world.
Mims truly believes that representation isn’t just fair – it’s effective and research shows having elected bodies that accurately reflect the people they serve leads to better policy making.

As the Shadow Minister for Women, I'm thrilled to be speaking up on 'Ask Her To Stand Day' encouraging more women to stand for Parliament, and more locally in the constituency, to reach equal representation.
We aren't just looking for anyone, we're looking for women who are making changes for the better in their constituency and have the drive to work to make change.
So, on this Ask Her To Stand Day, I'd like to encourage as many women as possible to come forward, speak with the friendly team, and find out more:
