Mims Davies MP supports Group B Strep Awareness Week in Parliament
Mims was very pleased to join the important drop-in event in Parliament showing support and helping shine a light on a preventable issue that still affects too many families across the UK.
Group B Streptococcus (also known as group B Strep, GBS or Strep B) is the most common cause of life-threatening infection in new-born babies.
GBS is a bacterium carried by 20-25% of adults in the UK, typically in the gut or vagina and it rarely causes any symptoms to the carrier and carriage does not need to be treated.
It also causes serious infections in new-born babies including sepsis, pneumonia and meningitis. Untreated, a GBS infection can kill a new-born
baby within hours. Each week in the UK, 14 babies develop group B Strep infection—one will die, and another will survive with long-term disability.

I was really pleased to have been supporting Group B Strep Awareness Week.
It was important to join the Group B Strep drop-in event recently in Parliament with my colleagues, learning even more about their mission and how we can help as MPs.
They’re putting group B Strep on the agenda and pushing for better awareness and prevention.
Thank you to the team for all they do.
