Mims Davies MPs' update on Wivelsfield Stations' Access for All Scheme
Mims Davies MP said:
It's election time, so leaflets have been out with one story... I have been raising this issue consistently and for clarity, this is my involvement on this crucial issue:
For the record, I am on the long waiting list to speak directly with the Minister. Defunding and not pursing promised projects under us by Labour is now sadly a fact of life for us in Sussex, so it’s incumbent on all local representatives to work together on matters that affect the whole community.
I will continue to push for the funding we need to get the programme up and running. Acknowledging from my engagement with GTR and Network Rail this is a very tricky site, a key Brighton mainline station and where geographically the tight site and topography is a challenge on both costs, access and potential build disruption.
I know this has been a cause of frustration for my residents, and those nearby especially, with the additional misinformation being spread by others - rest assured I am on the case with Ministers, taking this lack of delivery seriously, and will share further updates as soon as I have them.
The attached response is very disappointing and doesn't help or reassure residents at all. This scheme should have been prioritised and I will continue to push for the funding we need to get the programme up and running.
I will keep on pushing and as the Gatwick expansion looms we will need all the more infrastructure and local resources. I see delivery of access like this as integral, I will keep pushing via my Co-chair role of the APPG for the South East and Gatwick Diamond growth gateway where these projects are vital to see happen as we continue to push for more success and growth across our area and the improvements we need to go with them.
Not only can we MPs speak in the Chamber on behalf of residents, as well as meeting with Ministers, we can also write 'Written Parliamentary Questions', or WPQs, which I regularly submit on key issues residents raise with me and can be found here - https://questions-statements.parliament.uk/written-questions?SearchTerm=&DateFrom=09%2F07%2F2024&DateTo=31%2F05%2F2026&AnsweredFrom=&AnsweredTo=&House=Commons&MemberId=4513&Answered=Any&Expanded=True
