Mims Davies MP's Weekly Column for the Mid Sussex Times

I’m extremely saddened we have been experiencing an unacceptable and hideously growing amount of antisemitism in the UK. At my recent women’s business breakfast, I had some attendees raising their experience and deep concerns.

I cannot begin to describe how appalled, how disappointed, how angry I am that our country, our education system, and our institutions have fallen low and failed too many so badly on this issue.

There is a chance to be fully honest about this serious and ongoing threat against British Jews. We, all of us, need to stand with the Jewish people against this rising tide of hate. We must stop being tolerant of the intolerant. The Labour government needs to get a firm grip, stop mouthing platitudes and act in this crisis: we are calling to ban the hate marches, deport hate preachers who spread antisemitism and proscribe the IRGC as first steps.

I am proud to stand by the words of the Leader of the Conservative Party, my party, when she said:

‘Not here. Not in Britain. And not on our watch. We need to stop the handwringing and start doing the right thing. That means standing with British Jews openly, unapologetically and without fear.’ My team and I joined the vigil at parliament square last year and we will always continue to express our solidarity and care for this community who needs our action, support and to be stood up for at every turn.

A huge thanks to all the residents and parents who took the time to contact me with views, concerns, and frustrations on the Governments’ SEND Consultation. I’ve done my best to ensure that my submission to the Consultation reflects your views in my response.

Be assured I know how important this topic is to parents in my constituency and I will engage constructively with the Labour Government on SEND reform where I believe their intentions are right.

However, I will always press strongly for clarity on EHCP protections, for credible plans to deal with the funding gap, for reforms that are properly costed and funded, for reforms that genuinely deliver early support and stronger provision for children, and for families to feel their needs and challenges have been properly understood.

This is no less than my constituents deserve. I thank all these families who have given me their insights and their trust in this matter. We cannot let them down.

My submission can be found on my socials or on my website here - https://www.mimsdavies.org.uk/news/mims-davies-mps-send-reform-consultation-submission-behalf-egu-residents

I joined BBC Politics South East last Friday and discussed how Labour needs to stop talking and take action on our borders, The Welfare Bill, our policy to scrap Stamp Duty, and giving our younger generations the opportunities they need. As well as the Westminster Hour on Radio 4 and recently Newsnight. Many readers might know my natural home is radio, but I am always proud to represent you on TV or here.

Scrapping stamp duty would make it easier for our younger people in EGU and beyond to get onto the property ladder by reducing the huge upfront costs they're confronted with when buying a home. Our young people truly need the chances they feel looked out from.

I hope you enjoy a great bank holiday – the sunshine is a welcome bonus.
