Mid Sussex MP Mims Davies strongly welcomed the announcement this week by the Transport Secretary Grant Shapps on the new national Veterans Railcard. This railcard will offer an additional 830,000 veterans, who are not covered by existing discounts or railcards, up to one-third off most rail fares from 5 November and will also extend discounted travel to a named companion and up to four dependent children, if travelling with the cardholder.
Mims Davies, MP for Mid Sussex said:
I am very pleased our Government continues to recognise the incredible service HM Armed Forces has and is giving to this country. We clearly are all indebted to them and it is therefore great news our veterans will now be able to make the most of additional discounted rail travel, which will give them additional support in accessing vital work prospects and retraining opportunities and it will also become easier for former members of the armed forces to stay in touch with friends and relatives - so important in these uncertain times.

It is very good news that the Government continues to recognise the service HM Forces give to their country. This new railcard for veterans present more opportunities to connect with family and friends as well as embark on new and existing job ventures. I therefore thoroughly welcome the Government’s announcement in this regard.
