The Butterfly Conservation has launched the Big Butterfly Count. Earlier this year it was revealed that half of Britain’s remaining butterfly species are now on the Red List and threatened or near threatened with extinction.
The Big Butterfly Count is vital in helping scientists understand more about what is happening to the nation’s butterflies. In recent years Butterfly Conservation has helped to save two species from extinction in the UK and halted the decline of many others, proving that with the right information and targeted action, species can be brought back from the brink.
The Big Butterfly Count closes on Sunday 7th August. To take part spend 15 minutes outside in a sunny spot and count the amount and type of butterflies you see. For your free Butterfly Guide and to submit your results visit www.bigbutterflycount.org.
