Eastleigh’s local Member of Parliament, Mims Davies, has highlighted a key Government consultation currently underway to gain people’s views on unauthorised development and encampments, and what powers there should be both to prevent them from taking place, and to deal with them when they arise.
Commenting, Eastleigh MP Mims Davies said:
“Just last month we all witnessed the nuisance that travellers cause within our communities when they moved onto land on Hiltingbury Road, which comes on top of similar unauthorised encampments on land at both Passfield Avenue and Chestnut Avenue in Eastleigh last summer, raising concerns for local businesses and local residents whilst also costing the tax payer thousands of pounds.
“I welcome that the Government is already looking at how it can strengthen powers to combat unauthorised travellers encampments, and this key consultation ‘Powers for dealing with unauthorised development and encampments’ - which closes on the 15th June - is an important opportunity for my constituents to ensure that their points are taken into account.”
“I also welcome the lead that the All Party Parliamentary Group for Hampshire has taken on this issue, and if constituents would like to add their voice to the Hampshire-specific campaign on this issue, I would advise that they visit https://www.ranil.uk/travellers .”
