Every week in the UK, at least 12 people die of undiagnosed heart conditions. That's 12 families a week suffering from the devastating loss of a young person that has died too soon.
That’s why, on Sunday 25th October, Mims Davies MP took part in the Morrison’s Great South Run, running 10 miles to raise money for the charity CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young).
Cardiac Risk in the Young works to reduce the frequency of young sudden cardiac death (YSCD). CRY promotes and develops heart screening programmes and funds essential medical research, as well as funding fast track referral, screening and cardiac pathology services at leading UK hospitals; all vital to ensuring young people are as informed and protected against YSCD as possible.
Graham and Anne Hunter, who live in Mims’ constituency of Eastleigh, lost their daughter when she was just 22 years old from an undiagnosed heart condition. Following Claire's death, Graham and Anne began to raise money for free cardiac screening sessions for young people through CRY, and Mims has joined them in their outstanding efforts. They have also lobbied for emergency defibrillators to be installed in public places, something which the Eastleigh MP also feels strongly about.
Mims raised over £500 through her sponsored run and continues to work with Graham and Anne Hunter to achieve the aims of CRY.
