Mims Davies, MP for Eastleigh, has supported a Parliamentary event hosted by environment charity ‘Keep Britain Tidy’ to launch their #GBSpringClean Campaign.
Following the event, Mims said:
‘I was delighted to don my high-vis jacket today in support of this brilliant campaign.’
‘We’re so lucky that Eastleigh and the surrounding area is such a beautiful place to live and work; and this campaign is a great reminder that we can all work together to battle ‘litter bugs’ and ‘rubbish monsters’ to keep the area nice and clean’
‘I know how important tackling waste is to my constituents, and I recently welcomed the Government’s 25 Year Plan for the Environment as it looked to seriously tackle our nation’s use of disposable plastics.’
‘We’ve used 9 Billion fewer single use plastic bags since the bag charge came in in October 2015 – enough bags to wrap around the world over 100 times – but there is still so much more to do.’
‘Whilst we in Government look at how to approach this problem on a national scale, I hope my constituents will join me in looking at what we can do every day to make a difference locally.’
As an Assistant Government Whip for the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, Mims will be supporting Ministers and the Secretary of State as they pursue an ambitious agenda for protecting the UK’s environment. This includes recycling and combatting waste.
