Eastleigh MP Mims Davies is encouraging constituents to have a flu jab this winter after going to a Boots pharmacy on Leigh Road at the weekend to have the injection herself. The injection is available to everybody, certain people are eligible for a free jab on the NHS and there is a modest cost for those who are not.
Mims said,
“Now winter is coming, I strongly encourage everyone to get their free flu jab on the NHS if they are eligible, but for those who aren’t, please consider going to your local pharmacy to pay for one. This is not just something you would be doing for yourself but it also protects you from passing anything on to vulnerable adults and children. Personally, I have started to make this a regular annual event. This in turn will mean fewer GP and hospital visits leading to fewer lost days at work or at school for children. It is very cost effective”
She continued,
“With the current Movember campaign in full swing, raising the profile of men’s health, this is a perfect opportunity too for all those gentleman out there to protect themselves against flu this season.”
Manjeer Pahal, the Boots’ Pharmacist said,
“The flu jab is a great opportunity for men to come in and talk to the pharmacist about their general wellbeing and health. There is usually no need to make an appointment and we can provide great clinical advice”.
The cost is around £10 and it could be money well spent for those who have busy lives, including those who play a key role in looking after children or loved ones as having the vaccine can lessen the risk of getting flu and serious complications such as bronchitis and pneumonia. If you have any queries about the flu vaccination advice can be found on the NHS Choices website at https://www.nhs.uk/livewell/winterhealth/pages/fluandthefluvaccine.aspx or at your local pharmacy.
