It’s been a great week for weather with families making the most of the sunshine and enjoying our area and all that it has to offer.
One of my personal favourites is the brilliant beach set-up in Eastleigh thanks to the amazing Eastleigh BID team who do SO much to support the town and put activities on for the community and visitors to enjoy.
A long-standing favourite attraction for people visiting our neck of the woods is the Royal Victoria Country Park, attracting thousands of visitors each year! While the stunning grounds, café and railway are all hugely popular areas within the park, the vocal point remains the Grade II listed Chapel, and it was great to see this spectacular piece of local heritage re-open following a £3.5 million refurb allowing visitors to access to parts of the chapel that have previously closed to the public. The Royal Victoria Country Park holds so much history and is a great day out, particularly over the summer! If you get a chance it’s well worth popping by with a picnic.
Last week it was really great to catch-up with my team before heading to a Building Heroes Trustee Meeting. This is a fantastic charity that I am SO proud to have been a part of! The team are doing an ace job of working with service leaders to help ensure that our veterans have the skills that they need to get back in to work. My personal thanks to all of those involved, as well as our brilliant servicemen and women, past and present! As many readers will know, tackling domestic abuse is another area that I am really passionate about, and having met with constituents locally in my advice surgeries, and worked on this particular policy area as Eastleigh’s MP in Parliament, I was delighted to hear that Hampshire County Council will be investing £13.5 million in to tackling domestic abuse across Hampshire.
This key investment will build upon the new Stalking Protection Order to protect victims at the earliest possible stage, and a landmark draft Domestic Abuse Bill, to transform our approach to these crimes. The administration at Hampshire County Council are carrying out some fantastic work for our region, and I look forward to continuing to work with Councillors across the county to better protect my constituents.
Wishing you all a really enjoyable weekend!
