I was thrilled to join so many residents for last week’s Small Business Saturday. I had a lovely Friday in Uckfield during their brilliant annual late night shopping event. Then on Saturday with residents backing our local traders and producers. Please shop local and back our small businesses and high streets in the final days up to Christmas if you can. They are crucial to our local economy, and they really need all the support we can provide.
I bought some amazing sausage rolls for the family at the brilliant Bishop butchers - so much going on - as well as the traditional Coopers Farm BBQ with the wonderful Cllr Michael Lunn on the tongs! Also greatly enjoyed the AMAZING Festival of Christmas Trees at Holy Cross Church - my team are I were proud to have a tree there too.
Ahead of the final Christmas rush, I met recently with the local posties in East Grinstead chatting to those that deliver in our villages. Whether it be to check in on how their work is going, provide my support as the local Member of Parliament, or share the views and concerns of my constituents, I regularly meet with the local Royal Mail Team. Thank you to all our amazing posties and all in the vans, lorries, and working with their management teams delivering across EGU who are so busy delivering our letters, cards, parcels, gifts. They go out no matter the weather, all year, and we appreciate them all and the Royal Mail teams across the country.
More unseen, than seen, and obviously not all rightly shared on socials. It’s traditional MPs highlight our hardworking posties at Christmas and encourage more to take up this vital and busy role. I get to see many residents from the patch everyday who need help and support, and I am always keen to highlight our unsung heroes in all sectors too. More about that in the new year…
I've already been receiving correspondence from worried constituents, business owners, farmers, and more in EGU sharing their concerns on how the Budget has impacted them. Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to contact me - I can't represent you fully without your views. So, with that in mind, I would be grateful if residents could take 5minutes to share views with me through my survey - https://www.mimsdavies.org.uk/autumn-budget-2025-reactions-survey
Finally, I was pleased to recently host my final ‘Meet Mims’ of the year for Copthorne residents who shared questions with me they’d like raised with the Home Office, mainly around illegal working, curfews introduced, and police presence. As promised, I wrote to the Home Office regarding the experiences shared with me by residents-the use of illegal drugs, swearing, littering, shoplifting, using subsistence cards for alcohol and more. This is beyond unacceptable and as soon as I receive a formal response, I’ll be sure to update you. It’s all on my website or Facebook page.
