Happy New Year!
I’d like to send a heartfelt new year message to all my constituents in East Grinstead, Uckfield, and the villages, wishing everyone a very happy 2026. Here’s to a new year filled with fresh beginnings, endless opportunities and great happiness. I hope everyone had a very pleasant and relaxed Christmas, whether you were spending it with family, friends, or solo, and if you were among the group of incredible people who were working and keeping our services going now or over the festivities, a huge thank you. Whether in retail, hospitality, our wonderful emergency services or NHS – you are massively appreciated and a sincere thanks to all-enjoy your rest when it comes.
I know residents are still really concerned about both the Crowborough Training Camp and Copthorne Hotel community impacts. I hope you saw ahead of Christmas our small win where the Ministry of Defence has agreed to secure an alternative site for our Cadets and the Home Office delay on Safe/Legal & Compliant challenges at the camp.
I know there is ongoing worry and stress across our area, and I hope this will be a small amount of reassurance. Through the new year we’re straight back to it representing our constituents like yourselves and hoping for further new wins in this new year. I am very mindful of both matters and we will continue to keep you updated.
As you may know via my social media and newsletter, I spoke just prior to Christmas in the House of Commons regarding the challenges at Weir Wood and Ardingly Reservoirs in my constituency. Water scarcity is an issue - I’ve significant correspondence from constituents sharing their deep concerns and worries about the escalating water supply issues and needs here and nearby. I wrote to the Secretaries of State for DEFRA and the Department of Energy Security and Net Zero regarding water shortages and DEFRA’s response can be seen here - https://www.mimsdavies.org.uk/news/mims-davies-mp-shares-defra-response-regarding-ardingly-reservoir-and-balcombe-oil-exploration
I requested pre-Christmas, the CEO of South East Water meet locally with me urgently regarding the impact on residents and businesses who’ve had this bolt from the blue thrust upon them in terms of their property and a new pipe between the reservoirs. I’m very pleased he agreed to an on-site meeting with the Senior Leadership at SE Water soon into the new year. I will keep my constituents updated.
Wishing you all a very happy, healthy, and prosperous 2026 full of success.
