The EG Business Association and many local businesses and I are deeply frustrated about the lack of proper business compensation following the awful South East Water outages.
Following the lack of development for proper compensation for businesses, I’ve officially launched my Parliamentary petition. Please sign and support our businesses who work so hard to boost our local economy and keep our high streets and area thriving here - https://www.mimsdavies.org.uk/mims-davies-mps-petition-business-compensation-south-east-water
We met with the SE Water current leadership team at Weir Wood Reservoir on Friday about local water resilience and how to get better business compensation support and I am strongly pushing for something better which I am keen to update on shortly.
After East Grinstead’s temporary Banking Hub, I was delighted to share the opening of the Uckfield temporary Banking Hub too. EGU residents need better face to face banking support when they need. Uckfield’s new hub is located at Wealden Volunteering, 79 High Street, Uckfield TN22 1AS, open Monday – Friday, 9am – 5pm. I’ll update on a permanent home for these new Banking Hubs when we hear more.
In Parliament, I have spoken on the ongoing issue women suffer up and down the country that the government is sadly choosing to ignore - despite strategies and so-called “plans” – despicable rates of sexual violence and assaults continue to plague some NHS wards and care homes.
Reports of rape and other abhorrent forms of sexual abuse are being reported in the very place where we should all feel safe and cared for. Staff and medical students face sexual harassment while training at university, meaning women are truly at the frontline of this in our NHS. This criminality can’t continue to be perpetrated where the most vulnerable are targeted as they are there for treatment and to heal. Find out more on my Facebook page and website.
Fuel prices and heating oil prices are skyrocketing due to the Middle East situation and residents are contacting me about their oil either not showing up or being forced into buying more than they need or can afford.
I have spoken to the Shadow Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero about my constituency neighbour about this and the particular impact on our rural areas and welcome the partial support Government is bringing forward for those most vulnerable and impacted.
I love bringing constituents to Prime Minister's Questions or for our Westminster Tours. Last week we had residents from Balcombe popping by for PMQs. I also enjoyed welcoming Hurst College students as we celebrated 30 years of girls, at the school and as Shadow Minister for Women and for International Women’ s Day with my fellow Mid Sussex District MP. Our future is really bright, and the bursaries impact is substantial and vital as is choice in all local education such as having local thriving academies.
Meanwhile I was spoilt last Sunday - being treated by my daughters at a local pub-my kind of Mothering Sunday. I hope all those celebrating had a special day.
