My Weekly Column for the Mid Sussex Times
My Weekly Column for the Mid Sussex Times

We had a magnificent day at the Farnborough International Airshow, meeting constituents, local businesses such as Rolls Royce in East Grinstead, and many companies from across the aerospace, space and the wider defence supply chain.

It was fascinating to see the latest innovations, including the technology used to protect airports like our Gatwick Airport from unauthorised drones.

I was also pleased to be joined by Reverend Jamie Gater from Forest Row, Chaplain to the Air Cadets in East Grinstead, and recently appointed Acting Pilot Officer! We discussed opportunities for our local cadets, future careers, and support for our forces.

It was a pleasure to catch up with the Rolls-Royce local team and see first-hand the world-class engineering and innovation that supports skilled jobs both locally and across England, Wales and whole of the UK.

The UK aerospace sector continues to be something we can all be proud of. Thank you to all the exhibitors, staff and community for backing a superb and gigantic event.
Finally, as we enjoy the longer days, warmer weather, and everything that summer brings, it's also a timely reminder to stay vigilant and look out for one another.

Please remember to lock your doors and windows, even if you're only popping out for a short while or enjoying time in the garden. Unfortunately, anti-social behaviour and opportunistic crime can increase during the summer months, so taking a few simple precautions can make a real difference.

I've recently raised several cases directly with the Sussex Police and Mid Sussex Neighbourhood Policing Inspector Fahey, after constituents came directly to me. While I'm of course always happy to help and support residents with their casework, it's also vital that concerning incidents are reported to the Sussex Police firstly if they don't know about it, they can't build an accurate picture of what's happening in our community or allocate the right resources across our area. Please call 101 or Crimestoppers for free.

Even if it seems minor, every report helps build the bigger picture and ensures incidents are officially recorded.

Together, we can help keep our neighbourhoods and rural communities’ areas safer.

I’m thrilled to be hosting another of my ‘Meet Mims’ Q&A events – this time in Uckfield on Wednesday 30th September, 19:00 – 20:00.

I recognise headline party politics may be a turn off for many, but it is still Parliament that has to make important decisions on so many issues that our country faces.

My series of 'Meet Mims’ events is a chance for local constituents of East Grinstead, Uckfield and the villages to come along, hear from me as their Parliamentary representative, and to have an independent local journalist put me on the spot!

There will also be an opportunity to ask me any questions you may have on local issues.

Tickets are limited in line with venue capacity, and on a first come first serve basis, so don’t wait, register for a ticket here - https://Meet-Mims-Uckfield-September-2026.eventbrite.co.uk

Meanwhile, I have my first job fair in September coming up too in the town and so do email me if you are looking to recruit or an organisation looking for volunteers or any winter seasonal roles!

Getting a first start or job progression is crucial in these challenging economic times.

I am very aware of the Copthorne Hotel situation that has been causing huge amounts of stress, deep frustration, and upset for many residents and I heard this at my Meet Mims event for Copthorne residents and from speaking with them individually in surgeries, in letters, emails, and I
