It may be Conference Season Westminster Recess, but that doesn’t mean the MP work stops by any stretch of the imagination which includes individual surgeries and joining local events.
It’s been great to join local events including the return of the Fun Run at Horsted Keynes raising money for Rocking horse Children’s charity, the Keisen Judo Club in Ashurst Wood as they celebrate their 20th anniversary as they hosted GB athlete and Commonwealth medallist Ethan Nairne for a Masterclass and the Impact, community lunch as the Royal Ashdown Golf Club amongst many others.
I’m thrilled to be hosting my first EGU constituency Jobs Fair this Thursday in Uckfield, 10am – 2pm. Residents interested in full-time, part-time, seasonal work, volunteer opportunities and more can register for the final tickets here - https://Mims-Davies-Jobs-Fair.eventbrite.co.uk
We have over 20 fantastic local businesses and groups joining us looking for employees and volunteers including DWP, Gatwick Airport, The Five Bells Pub, Chailey, and Children’s Respite Trust, Chailey Heritage Foundation, Headway Sussex, and Uckfield Picture House and many more.
So, whether you're looking for your first job, considering a career change, returning to work, looking for seasonal work, or exploring training or voluntary opportunities, this Jobs Fair is a great opportunity to meet a number of employers face-to-face, discover current vacancies, and receive advice to support your next career move.
We also have a ‘Meet Mims’ Q&A event in Uckfield on Wednesday 30th September, free to constituents here - https://Meet-Mims-Uckfield-September-2026.eventbrite.co.uk
I’ve more local Supermarket Surgeries booked in around the constituency too – so watch out for me whilst doing your weekly shop and come and say hello!
Speaking of Uckfield, it was a real pleasure to join the official opening of the new Banking Hub in Uckfield - a fantastic example of what can be achieved when we work together to deliver an important service for our community. But while it was a day to celebrate, it also highlighted the stark contrast with the experience many residents are having with our rail services.
Cancellations, disruptions, and unreliable services on the Uckfield line are simply not good enough. We need to be able to get to work, appointments, school, and home with confidence - not constantly wondering whether our train will turn up or not.
I’m still in the process of pushing to secure a meeting with Lord Hendy, Minister for Rail, because we need to see real action and commitment to improving our line and despite nationalisation things have gone from bad to even worse. I will be sharing your views and experiences with him from my online survey found here - https://www.mimsdavies.org.uk/nationalisation-rail-survey
You may have seen on my website and socials that I recently presented my official Parliamentary Petition on the Copthorne Hotel in the House of Commons.
The petition declared the Copthorne Hotel to be returned to its former use as a major local employer, valuable Gatwick Airport accommodation and a highly valued community hub, in line with the Mid Sussex District Council motion passed in September 2025. Thank you to the 563 constituents who signed in person , and the 1,364 who signed online.
I’ll continue to stand up for the people I represent and make sure their voices are heard on what bothers them – thanks to all who have emailed me on this and other local concerns.
