Mims Davies, MP for Eastleigh, has hosted the Netley Abbey Women's Institute for a private tour of Parliament.
Mims said,
'It was an absolute pleasure to invite the Netley Abbey WI for a tour of the Houses of Parliament last week.
Thirty-two ladies, lead by Lynda Crotty, joined me for a walk about the estate as I shared some of this place's history with them. Highlights certainly included a trip into the Lords' chamber and demonstrating how I 'whip' and 'tell' votes in the House of Commons voting lobbies.
'It was a joy to learn more from these women about their own perspective of Parliament - and to hear that some had last visited the Estate when Mrs Thatcher was head of the Government! I hope some preconceptions were changed, and that they left with a greater understanding of what the daily life of an MP looks like. I always find it such an honour to talk about my role as Eastleigh's MP and to have a chance to catch-up with indviduals from our local area in a fun and relaxed way.'
Lynda said afterwards:
'It was a privilege to see the majestic beauty Westminster holds on our visit. We particularly enjoyed the splendour of the decor in the Chapel and hallways leading to the Commons and Lords. We had no idea of the hidden gems we are custodians to.
'Thank you so much for your time - a truly unforgettable visit.'
