I know constituent's are concerned about the challenges lower-income households will face in the months ahead, particularly with the temporary Universal Credit uplift due to end on October 6th, so I hope you will all be pleased to hear the Government has now launched a new new £500m support fund. This will help vulnerable households with essentials over the autumn and winter months as we continue our economic recovery.
This new £500 million Household Support Fund will assist those who are at risk of struggling to keep up with their bills this winter – cash grants will be available from October for daily needs such as food, clothing and utilities, and those who require support should contact their local councils.
This fund bolsters the support already available from the Warm Home Discount and Cold Weather Payment, and will ensure that families across the country will not have to worry about meeting their essential costs this winter.
As a Minister in DWP, I am proud to see we are continuing to increase support for those who need it, and this fund will be distributed through councils, who know their local areas best.
Families will also continue to benefit from the energy price cap, recent rise in Local Housing Allowance and increases in the National Living Wage.
