Until 6 May, SE Water are holding a public consultation to refine their draft plan before the final version is published this summer.
The plan has been directly influenced by their customers, employees and stakeholders through a series of online workshops throughout the last year and is based on three key themes:
- Resilient safe water, now and into the future
- Protection for climate change and environmental hazards
- Sustainable business – enhancing nature and heritage, reducing waste and resource efficiency.
Mims Davies, the Member of Parliament for Mid Sussex commented:
“Clean water is vital to our daily lives, and we have been impacted many times recently in Mid Sussex with the loss of water provision with drought, cold weather and due to the system set up. We vitally need to ensure SouthEast Water are able to fully meet both today’s and tomorrow’s water demands, increasing their resilience against climate change and population growth, with the least impact as possible on the environment. Please do add your comments to this survey, by clicking on the link below, to ensure that they received a really broad range of comments”
The plan will be delivered through innovation and partnership working, so they are seeking offers of support to deliver the contents of the plan as part of the consultation process.
They have aligned their plan with Defra’s 25 Year Environment Plan, and the plan will be reviewed and updated at least every five years, continually looking 25 years ahead. This will be the industry’s first draft 25 Year Environment Plan which will rise to mee the threat of climate change and population growth,
We rely on a clean and plentiful supply of water so it is crucial that we not only make sure that their operations don't negatively impact on the environment but that they also increase the environment’s resilience to the effects of climate change, such as drought and flooding.
They are really keen to understand what the plan's strengths are, as well as any areas of weakness or omission. To have your say and let them know if you’d like to be involved in putting the plan into action, please visit their dedicated webpage.
