"The passing of Godfrey Olson OBE is a huge loss to our community, and he will be very greatly and deeply missed but most fondly remembered by people on all sides of the political divide for his unwavering commitment to our area, passionately and determinedly serving the interests of people across the Eastleigh Borough for a truly immense 61 years.
“On behalf of all of my Eastleigh constituents I send my thoughts to his family and friends at this sad time.
“Having served as a Conservative Councillor on Eastleigh Borough Council for six decades including as Leader of the Conservative Group, as the Borough’s Mayor on multiple occasions, as a Freeman of the Borough and Alderman of Eastleigh, and having been honoured with an OBE, there are very few people in any community, in public service at any level who could match-up to Godfrey’s lifelong community service and true dedication. I wholeheartedly pay tribute to him and will miss his kindness, advice and warmth very much. His family can be, and I know they will be, incredibly proud of all that he achieved, and like so many I feel honoured to have known him and to have learnt from him”
