In relation to the proposed closure of Eastleigh Police Station:
Operational matters are the responsibility of the Chief Constable and District Commander, and holding them to account is a direct matter for the Police and Crime Commissioner, Michael Lane, to carry out on behalf of my constituents using the various tools at the disposal of the Police and Crime Commissioner.
I will always add my voice, echoing what my constituents are telling me to those that need to know, and I have already written to Michael Lane to express the concern that constituents have raised with me over the closure of Eastleigh Police Station, and the importance that they place upon retaining a police presence not only in Eastleigh but across the Borough.
It is disappointing that after the horse has bolted, it would now perhaps seem that all parties, including the local council, are looking to work together to act and reach a better and more community focused solution to the concerns raised. Sadly my constituents will have seen this although others haven’t.
It is vital the outcome is positive to ensure not only the safety of others, but ensure that people of all ages feel safe and secure in our communities, which I will continue to take very seriously and hold the local stakeholders to account.
