Eastleigh’s local MP, Mims Davies – who was appointed Minister for Loneliness last month - has said that ‘more than ever before, we need to be more cross-party, cross-chamber and cross-country’, as she spoke at an event in Parliament organised by the Jo Cox Foundation.
The parliamentary reception celebrated the foundation’s national #MincePieMoments Great Christmas Get Together campaign - bringing communities together and tackling loneliness during the festive period.
Commenting, Eastleigh MP Mims Davies said:
“Our much loved and much missed colleague, Jo Cox, was absolutely right when she said that we have more in common than that that divides us, and as Eastleigh’s local MP, as well as through my brief as Sports Minister and Minister for Loneliness, I am 100% committed to bringing people together.
“This is particularly poignant as we head towards Christmas. The Jo Cox Foundation’s Great Christmas Get Together campaign is doing great work bringing people together at this sometimes difficult time of the year for many, and I was delighted to join them this week to share my #MincePieMoments.
“Our area is well known for its incredible community spirit, and I really hope that whether you’re in Hedge End or Hamble, Bishopstoke or Bursledon, you’ll share a #MincePieMoment with your neighbours this year.”
