UPDATE: 22nd November 2021:
I am absolutely delighted that, after many months of extremely hard work, dedication and perseverance, the Woodlands Meed College rebuild project has reached not only one but two key milestones. The first has been the signing of the Development Agreement by the College and the issue to the contract by WSCC to the contractor. The second has been the actual onsite start of the project on the 22nd November.
This is a vital project for students, parents and staff to provide a new facility and I know all involved are fully focused on achieving this. The original £20m budget has, following construction industry rising costs, been supplemented with a further £1.6m by WSCC to make this build attainable.
As the work progresses WSCC have committed to keep all interested parties informed of progress, including the around 200 families who have children both at the school and existing college sites.
I have kept strongly linked in & engaged all the way and I am delighted for all the parties involved. There has been a strong appetite from all to get this delivered, find common ground and after further meetings and vital conversations earlier in November this has now been achieved. This progress to onsite work is truly welcome news for those who have worked so hard for so long on this. I am truly over the moon for students & parents, and we can now look forward to seeing Woodlands Meed thrive with this investment.
My huge congratulations goes out to all involved and I look forward to seeing this much-needed project come to fruition for all the pupils, families, staff and governors.
