Mims Davies MP and Minister for Disabled People was thrilled to open the first ever Sensory Room at Ascot Racecourse.
On Sunday 24th March, Mims was thrilled to open the first ever Sensory Room at Ascot Racecourse, available for those who have neuro-diverse conditions to use on a raceday.
A sensory room is a specially designed room which combines a range of stimuli to help individuals develop and engage their senses. These can include lights, colours, sounds, sensory soft play resources and aromas, all used within a safe environment that allows the person using it to explore and interact without risk.
The ambition is for the state-of-the-art facility to help Ascot improve the diversity of their audiences and make it easier for those from the local area with children that suffer from these conditions to experience the thrill of a raceday.
The project forms part of Ascot's wider accessibility work as they set out to make the venue as open and inclusive as possible.
They are also planning to open the facility on non racedays for young people from schools and colleges across the region as part of their Ascot Racecourse Supports community programme.
Mims Davies MP said:
"As Minister for Disabled People, I was thrilled to open Ascot Racecourse's first ever sensory room at their Spring Family Raceday.
Making events such as racedays more accessible for all is hugely important and I commend Ascot for introducing a sensory room that will be available for those who have neuro-diverse conditions to use.
This brilliant project forms part of Ascot's wider accessibility work as they set out to make the venue as open and inclusive as possible.
I'd like to thank the team at Ascot Racecourse and all attendees for making the opening ceremony so memorable."
