I was honoured to sign the Holocaust Educational Trust Book of Commitment in Parliament on behalf of constituents. Holocaust Memorial Day is a vital opportunity for people to reflect on the darkest times of European history, with this year’s theme being Fragility of Freedom. Never again must we live in the shadow of hate. We must always stand up against evil.
I was pleased to welcome Minister for Rail, Huw Merriman, MP for Bexhill and Battle, to East Grinstead last week. Constituents often contact me regarding rail issues, particularly in East Grinstead where the unacceptable lack of regular and suitable train services leave frustrated commuters unable to rely on them to travel into work. I raised other issues such as services from Balcombe and the access scheme for Wivelsfield station. I then met with Cllrs at AGE UK, Glen Vue café up the road, for the Minister to hear direct from them too. Please don’t underestimate how hard I am working on this. I’ll keep pushing to get the services in a state we can all rely on so the stress, anger, and concerns can finally be a thing of the past.
I urge encourage residents and businesses to take part in MSDC’s consultation on their District Plan. Up to date local plans ensure communities are in control of where and what development happens in our area. When MSDC was Conservative led (it’s finely balanced now) we focused on this as it provides homes, protects communities, helps plan for services and is key to an infrastructure focused approach- meaning speculative and unwarranted developments in the wrong places can be avoided.
Our area will benefit from £10,631 in new funding as a result of the Government’s long-term investment in grassroots sports - £823 to Ashurst Wood Junior FC for new goalposts, £1,104 for new goalposts at Leylands Park, Burgess Hill and £8,704 for new goalposts at East Grinstead Sports Club.
Applications for Veterans Cards are now open. A fantastic scheme helps our veterans access a wide range of Government support available to them by verifying their military status. Details here: https://www.gov.uk/veteran-card
