This week we see the introduction of the International Development Strategy. In an increasingly geopolitical world, it is vital to use all levers available. Including development, diplomacy, investment, trade, defence, and intelligence to deliver on foreign policy objectives. The Strategy sets out four priorities: delivering honest and reliable investment: providing women and girls with freedom they need to succeed: stepping-up our life-saving humanitarian work: taking forward our work on climate change, nature and health.
MP for Mid Sussex, Mims Davies commented:
“I welcome the International Development Strategy; it is essential that this supports not only the development and growth of UK markets but also reaches to the world community developing and attracting investment and jobs. We are a caring country, and we need to ensure that everyone has the tools that they need to succeed, allowing everyone to reach their full potential and to be the best that they can be. Whilst ensuring that those outside our shores have our support in times of need.”
The spending aid will be used to challenge those who use economic coercion and undermine countries looking to develop and attract investment, bringing more countries into the orbit of free-market economies.
This strategy will also deepen economic, security and development ties globally, while delivering jobs and growth in both the UK and developing world.
It will channel world class UK expertise, business, civil society networks, research partnerships and technology capability to countries across the world. Creating new jobs and opportunities both worldwide and in Britain. Focusing on UK led projects, shifting way from longer term multilateral organisation programmes.
Partnering with likeminded countries to deliver programmes and investment, such as our UK-Australia humanitarian partnership, working directly with the polish Government to deliver this aid to Ukraine.
It will provide women and girls with the freedom they need to succeed, helping them unlock their future potential, supporting their economic empowerment and protecting them against violence.
It will provide life-saving humanitarian assistance and work to prevent the worst forms of human suffering. Stepping up our funding to £3 billion over the next three years and being a global leader in driving a more effective international response to humanitarian crises.
